The position holds that the reopened channel between the United States and Russia, together with waivers on Russian energy, is pragmatic realism that serves stability, not appeasement. Its advocates stress predictability, market stability and managed engagement, and say temporary easing keeps oil supplies flowing, takes a little pressure off vulnerable countries and avoids worse outcomes, with a successor to the expired nuclear arms treaty still needed.
