Washington's account
Maduro was under American indictment for narco-terrorism and had stolen an election in front of the world. Every peaceful means had been tried for a decade: sanctions, negotiations, recognition of his opponents. The operation lasted hours, struck military targets, and removed the man without an occupation. The boats were run by cartels that kill more Americans each year than any army has. Since January the flow of migrants and drugs has fallen, prisoners are free, and Venezuela is a partner. Presidents have always had the power to defend the country against such threats.
