Over 500 feared dead in refugee boat sinkings off Myanmar

The United Nations fears that more than 500 people have died after two boats carrying refugees sank off the coast of Myanmar. The boats, carrying Rohingya and other refugees, vanished in the Andaman Sea. UN agencies reported the missing and presumed dead on July 16, 2026. The incidents are among the deadliest in recent years in the region.
