Tens of thousands of people marched in London on Saturday in two separate, rival protests. One was a pro-Palestinian demonstration marking Nakba Day, the annual commemoration of the displacement of Palestinians in 1948. The other was a far-right, anti-immigration rally led by Tommy Robinson, a prominent British far-right activist.
The two protests came face-to-face in parts of the city, with a heavy police presence deployed to keep them apart. Dozens of people were arrested during the day. In one incident, a pro-Palestine supporter was reported to have threatened to “behead Jews one by one” in east London.
