Russia's Lavrov compares Crimea to Greenland in dispute with West

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has made a series of comments comparing the status of Crimea to that of Greenland. He argued that Crimea is as important for Russia's security as Greenland is for the United States, and stated that Greenland is not a 'natural part' of Denmark, linking the issue to a colonial-era legacy.

Lavrov also mocked the UK, saying it should no longer be called 'Great' Britain, and seized rhetorically on comments from President Donald Trump. Trump had criticized a UK deal on the Chagos Islands, linking it to the Greenland issue and saying it showed weakness toward China and Russia.
