Trump renews claim about US control of Greenland ahead of Davos

President Donald Trump has again claimed the United States has a right to control Greenland. He made the comments ahead of his arrival at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and linked the issue to his failure to win a Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump's remarks drew sharp criticism from several international leaders. UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called the claims "bullying," while French President Emmanuel Macron mocked Trump's rhetoric. US Treasury Secretary Bessent, however, downplayed the situation, telling critics to "take a deep breath" and brushing off what he called "hysteria."

Trump also appeared to confuse Iceland with Greenland during his comments. The renewed focus on Greenland comes years after a previous, unsuccessful attempt by his administration to purchase the autonomous Danish territory.
