Kaja Kallas, the EU's foreign policy chief, has said the bloc is discussing a UN-backed plan to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil shipping route. She mentioned a model similar to one used in the Black Sea as a possibility.
However, Kallas also stated there is currently 'no appetite' among EU member states to expand or shift the mandate of an existing EU naval mission to cover the strait. This comes as President Donald Trump has called for forming a maritime coalition for the region.
