People's Daily · January 2026

• foregrounds domestic protests and labor unrest in the US
• highlights US threats and aggressive foreign policy moves
• reports US economic and political turmoil (Fed investigation, market drops)
• includes neutral or positive China-related business stories (Starbucks, Tesla, Goldman Sachs) as contrast

The outlet's own editorial voice is not overtly hostile; many headlines are factual. However, the selection heavily emphasizes US internal conflict (protests, strikes, investigations) and aggressive foreign actions (threats to Iran, tariffs, Greenland), while juxtaposing positive China business news. This framing implies a skeptical, critical stance toward the US as a troubled and destabilizing actor, though not consistently delegitimising.

• foregrounds achievements and positive developments
• uses authoritative and favourable framing for Chinese actions
• highlights international recognition and cooperation
• minimal critical or distancing language

All headlines are uniformly positive or neutral toward China; no negative or critical coverage present. The outlet consistently amplifies China's successes and official statements without skepticism.

• Quoting Trump's threats and aggressive actions without endorsement
• Highlighting negative consequences of Trump's policies
• Using distancing verbs like 'says' and 'reiterates'
• Foregrounding international opposition and skepticism toward Trump

The outlet does not use overtly hostile language like 'regime' or 'brutal', but consistently selects headlines that portray Trump as a source of conflict, threats, and negative outcomes (e.g., market drops, international pushback). The entity's own statements are reported with neutral attribution, but the framing emphasizes his adversarial role and the skepticism of others toward him. This is a skeptical stance, not outright hostility.
