North Korea
North Korea is a highly centralised one-party state whose nuclear and missile programmes make it a lasting security flashpoint in Northeast Asia. Its economy is state-run, short of food and heavily exposed to sanctions. The standing issues are the ballistic and nuclear missile programme, the standoff on the Korean Peninsula together with the US-South Korea alliance that answers it, and North Korea's ties to Russia and to China, which it treats as transactional. This page holds news, politics, economy and security in North Korea, month by month, with the standing conflicts explained.
