Central Asia, made up of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, is a landlocked Eurasian crossroads linking Russia, China, South Asia and the Middle East. Its post-Soviet states share a history but have taken different political and economic paths, with resource-linked and transit-oriented economies.
