WELT · July 2026

• Frequent use of distancing and critical framing (e.g., 'droht', 'Bumerang', 'Kalkül', 'Trick')
• Emphasis on negative consequences and controversies (e.g., 'rote Zahlen', 'politische Bumerang', 'geheime Deals')
• Quotes Trump but often in contexts that expose contradictions or self-serving moves
• Selection highlights failures, threats, and questionable deals rather than achievements

Some headlines report Trump's actions neutrally or even amplify his statements (e.g., #1, #10, #17), but the overall selection and framing lean critical, especially regarding tariffs, Iran, and personal motives. The outlet does not use overtly hostile language, but skepticism is consistent.

• Quotes officials and politicians without overt editorializing
• Uses critical descriptors for AfD actions ('Eklat', 'Affront', 'befremdlich')
• Reports on controversies and internal party conflicts
• Balances positive economic news with political scandals

The entity is Germany (DE) as a country, not a single actor. Coverage spans domestic politics, economy, and security. The outlet's own voice is largely neutral, but headlines about AfD include negative framing from quoted sources. No consistent stance toward Germany as a whole; mixed topics prevent a clear score.

• Frequent use of 'Trump' as the main actor, often in conflict or crisis contexts
• Headlines highlight negative outcomes, risks, and contradictions (e.g., 'Bumerang', 'weiß nicht, wie der Iran-Krieg enden soll')
• Quotes from Trump are often paired with critical framing or challenges (e.g., 'weist Einwände zurück', 'droht')
• Selection emphasizes domestic and international friction, legal issues, and questionable deals

The entity is the US as a country, but coverage focuses overwhelmingly on Trump's actions and policies. The outlet does not uniformly condemn the US; it reports on various actors (e.g., New York mayor, US judge) neutrally. The negative stance is primarily directed at Trump's conduct and its repercussions, not the US as a whole. Some headlines (e.g., 24) report US support for Ukraine neutrally or positively. Overall, the outlet is skeptical of the current US administration's decisions and their consequences.

• Frequent use of crisis framing: 'Krise', 'Desaster', 'Demontage', 'Ärger'
• Quotes from internal critics and opposition attacking Merz
• Negative polling and approval ratings highlighted
• Distancing verbs and critical commentary in headlines

Some headlines report Merz's statements neutrally or even amplify his positions (e.g., CSD speech, nuclear exercise), but the dominant pattern is critical coverage of his leadership amid party infighting and poor polls. The outlet itself does not use overtly hostile language, but selection and framing skew negative.
