Eight days later the clerical assembly that chooses the leader named his son, Mojtaba. The new leader was wounded in the war and has barely been seen since. The BRICS summit opened in New Delhi on 11 September with Putin, Xi and Pezeshkian attending. On 12 September Iran sought membership of the New Development Bank, and Araghchi cited a meeting between Modi and Pezeshkian. On 25 September Netanyahu told the UN that Iran's government will fall. On 28 September Iran's supreme leader said the United States will be forced out of the Middle East. On 29 September Ghalibaf said any threat against Iran will draw a swift response.
