Since the war began in 2026 Iran has fired missiles and drones at American bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, and at oil facilities nearby. Iran says it is striking the United States where the United States strikes from. The states that host the bases say they are not at war with anyone and are being hit all the same.

On 1 September 2026 Iran launched missile and drone strikes on United States bases in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain and Iraq. On 2 September Iran's army carried out drone attacks on United States bases in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, and on 3 September further attacks on bases in Kuwait and the Emirates were reported. On 16 September Sweden expelled an employee of the Iranian embassy over threats to Jewish and Israeli sites. On 20 September Iran shut down a French language centre in Tehran, and fighting between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia escalated with attacks on Riyadh.
