Texas primary elections produce winners and a runoff for key Senate seats

Texas held its primary elections, which decided party nominees for the U.S. Senate and other offices. In the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, James Talarico defeated Jasmine Crockett, who conceded the race.

On the Republican side, the Senate primary is heading to a runoff between John Cornyn and Ken Paxton. This means neither candidate got enough votes to win outright, so they will face each other again in a later election to decide the Republican nominee.

Separately, some voters in two Texas counties were turned away due to confusion over recent changes to primary voting rules. The main outcomes, however, were Talarico securing the Democratic Senate nomination and the Cornyn-Paxton Republican race moving to a runoff.
