Macron and Meloni hold press conference after summit

In France on 25 June 2026, Macron hosted Meloni for talks on the French Riviera, in Antibes, and the two held a press conference after the summit. The meeting came after Meloni's fallout with Trump. France 24 reported that the two showed a relationship that is 'serious' but not 'icy', and Asahi Shimbun described a 'cold handshake' followed by steps toward better relations.

At the press conference, Macron and Meloni said the G7 in Evian sent a signal of unity and dialogue, and Meloni said Italy did not take part in the conflict in Iran. Le Monde reported that they want a multinational coalition in Lebanon when the UNIFIL mandate ends.
