NATO intercepts Iranian missile near Turkey and boosts defenses

Iran fired a missile that traveled toward NATO member Turkey. NATO air defense systems intercepted and destroyed the missile before it reached Turkish territory.

In response, NATO is moving to bolster missile defenses in Turkey. NATO chief Mark Rutte said there was no discussion of triggering the alliance's mutual defense clause, Article 5, over the incident. Iran has denied firing a missile toward Turkey.
