Iran's actions in Strait of Hormuz cause shipping crisis and international response

Iran has taken actions affecting shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil transport. Reports indicate a blockade has trapped over 2,000 ships in the Gulf, and human remains were found on a Thai ship that was attacked. Some vessels, including eight from India and others from Oman, France, and Japan, have managed to transit the strait, while 16 Indian ships remain.

In response, Gulf states are calling for United Nations approval to use force to secure the strait, and the United Kingdom plans to host coalition talks on the issue. Sultan Al Jaber, identified in a headline, has accused Iran of 'global economic extortion.' Iran, for its part, has reportedly boosted defenses at a key oil port, threatened wider Gulf targets, and rhetorically suggested a solution is for others to 'be polite.'
