Israel deports two Gaza flotilla activists after detention

Israel has deported two activists who were detained aboard a Gaza-bound aid flotilla. The two men, Saif Abu Keshek and Thiago Ávila, were held for about a week before being released and sent out of the country.

The deportations followed widespread criticism of their detention. The activists had been part of an effort to break Israel's naval blockade of Gaza, which Israel says is necessary to prevent weapons from reaching Hamas.
