The Israeli Navy intercepted a flotilla of boats trying to reach Gaza from Cyprus, boarding the vessels and detaining activists on board. The flotilla, called the 'Zad al-Izza' convoy, was organized by pro-Palestinian groups to deliver aid to Palestinians in Gaza, which has been under an Israeli blockade. Among those detained was Saad Edhi, a well-known Pakistani philanthropist, as well as activists from Finland and Australia. Israel says the interception is necessary to prevent supplies from reaching Hamas, which it considers a terrorist group.
