India's Foreign Minister S Jaishankar confirmed that an Iranian naval ship was allowed to dock at the port in Kochi. He said the decision was made from a point of humanity and that India makes its own decisions regarding its ports and the Indian Ocean.
This happened around the same time the United States sank another Iranian ship, the IRIS Dena, off the coast of Sri Lanka. Jaishankar described this as a reality of the Indian Ocean, where different naval powers operate.
