The United States and Iran have begun high-stakes ceasefire talks in Islamabad, Pakistan. JD Vance, a U.S. senator, is leading the American delegation, while Iran's side is represented by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of Iran's parliament.

The talks are focused on de-escalating tensions, with the strategic Strait of Hormuz being a key point of discussion. The negotiations are happening separately from, but alongside, ongoing hostilities between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, for which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also authorized talks.
