Iraq PM calls emergency security meeting after US-Saudi strikes kill 20 PMF members

On July 29, 2026, Iraqi Prime Minister ordered an emergency security meeting after US-Saudi airstrikes targeted positions of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), also known as Hashd al-Shaabi. The PMF reported that 20 of its members were killed and 32 others wounded in the attacks, which also damaged official buildings. Iraq's security council condemned the strikes, and prominent figure Hakim also voiced condemnation. The strikes have heightened tensions between Iraq and the US-Saudi coalition.
