Iran says it shot down a US fighter jet, search on for crew

Iranian state media reports that its forces shot down a US fighter jet over its territory. The reports claim the aircraft was an F-35, a latest-generation stealth jet.

US sources, cited in other reports, confirm a US Air Force jet was downed, identifying it as an F-15E. They say one of the two crew members has been rescued and a search is underway for the other.
