EU halts funding for Venice Art Biennale over Russia's participation

On 21 July 2026, the EU withdrew €2 million in funding from the Venice Art Biennale over Russia's participation. The Russian pavilion reopened for the first time since 2022. The EU stopped the grant because of Russia's return to the exhibition.
