US grants India temporary permission to buy Russian oil

The United States has given India a 30-day waiver to purchase Russian oil. This allows India to buy oil that is already loaded on tankers and stranded, with the stated goal of keeping oil flowing into the global market.

US officials said they reached out to India to make this arrangement, citing concerns about supply disruptions related to the conflict between Israel and Iran. The permission was confirmed by the US Treasury secretary.
