Chinese leader Xi holds calls with Putin and Trump in quick succession

Chinese leader Xi Jinping held a virtual meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two leaders discussed bilateral ties, with Putin hailing the Russia-China relationship. The expiring New START nuclear weapons treaty was also reportedly on their agenda.

Shortly after, Xi held a separate phone call with President Donald Trump. Xi called for "mutual respect" in the U.S.-China relationship and reiterated China's position on Taiwan. Trump described the conversation as an "excellent phone call."
