Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei dies, Mojtaba Khamenei succeeds him

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has died. His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, has become the country's new supreme leader.

International reactions have been mixed. President Donald Trump said he was disappointed by the succession and called it a chance for Iranians to take back their country. Russian President Vladimir Putin offered support to the new leader. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Mojtaba Khamenei and pledged closer cooperation.

Mojtaba Khamenei stated that Iran has dealt its enemies a "dizzying blow." Some reports note he has remained publicly invisible while other figures, like Ali Larijani, have been seen in public.
