The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda a global health emergency. This decision came after the virus spread beyond the initial affected areas, with more than 80 deaths reported in the outbreak.
The WHO's declaration is meant to coordinate international response efforts and increase funding and resources to contain the disease. The outbreak has been particularly challenging because it is occurring in a region with active conflict, making it harder for health workers to reach patients and track the virus.
