Fire kills 14 newborns at major hospital in Pakistan, officials say

In Pakistan on 26 August 2026, a fire in the maternity ward of a major hospital in the capital Islamabad killed at least 14 newborn babies. Some accounts put the toll at 15. The hospital is named as PIMS, and according to one account only one baby was rescued.

Witnesses said the door was locked during the fire. Officials ordered an immediate inquiry.
