A new poll shows Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva leading in a hypothetical second-round election matchup against former President Jair Bolsonaro. The Atlas/Bloomberg survey gives Lula 48.9% support compared to Bolsonaro's 41.8%, following reports that linked Bolsonaro to the disgraced banker Adir Assad, who is involved in a corruption scandal.
The reports emerged after audio recordings surfaced showing Bolsonaro's son, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, meeting with Vorcaro, a key figure in the Master bank scandal. Lula's government has also faced criticism over a tax on imported goods, which a minister called a mistake. Meanwhile, Lula has been preparing for the election campaign, including by reappointing a Supreme Court justice.
