New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani Celebrates Raksha Bandhan With Indian Community

In New York, United States, on 29 August 2026, Mayor Zohran Mamdani celebrated Raksha Bandhan with the Indian community.

Around the same time, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat gave a keynote speech at an event in New York, and a billboard of him appeared in Times Square beforehand. Bhagwat said a Hindu who thinks Muslims have no place in India is not a Hindu, that there is no place in Hindu thought for excluding Muslims, and that unity in diversity is in India's DNA. His visit to the US was denounced as a 'goodwill tour' for Hindu nationalism.
