Rubio in India discusses Iran deal, defends against critics

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is in India, where he met with Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar. During the visit, Rubio said a deal with Iran could be announced within hours, and that negotiations are proceeding in an orderly manner. He also defended the emerging agreement against conservative critics in the US.

Iran’s embassy in India accused Rubio of distorting realities about Tehran’s nuclear program and energy markets. Separately, when asked about racist remarks against Indians, Rubio dismissed them as “stupid” comments. Jaishankar praised the “deep and broad-based” cooperation between the US and India.
