Hegseth cancels Israel visit amid rising US-Iran tensions

Jul 8, 202620 sources

Summary

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has canceled a planned visit to Israel, including a meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz. The cancellation comes amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran, with President Donald Trump recently declaring a peace deal 'over' and oil prices rising. Trump has also praised both Turkish President Erdogan and Netanyahu, repeating his claim that he kept Turkey out of a potential war with Iran. Reports suggest the cancellation may also be linked to a dispute over a US F-35 sale to Turkey.
