Ships attacked in Strait of Hormuz as Iran asserts control

Three merchant ships were hit by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil shipments. Iran admitted to striking one of the vessels, a Thai-owned ship named the Mayuree Naree.

Thailand condemned the attack and summoned Iran's ambassador. Meanwhile, Iran's parliament approved a plan to reinforce its control over the strait, and a U.S. official, Bessent, said the U.S. would 'retake' control of the waterway, possibly with naval escorts.
