Polynesia

Polynesia, made up of Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, French Polynesia and the Cook Islands, is a culturally cohesive but economically fragile group of Pacific islands and territories. Its economies rely on aid, remittances and tourism, and its vast maritime region carries growing climate and geopolitical weight. The standing issues are outside powers competing for influence, with Australia as a contested middle power, the existential risk that sea-level rise poses to low-lying atolls, emigration, and close ties to larger states. This page follows news, politics, economy and security in Polynesia month by month, with the standing conflicts explained.
