Micronesia

Micronesia, made up of FSM, Guam, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Nauru and Palau, is a scattered group of Pacific islands and territories with varied political statuses and small economies that depend on aid and services. Its wide maritime zone across the Western and Central Pacific carries growing strategic weight. The standing issues are outside powers competing for influence, with Australia as a contested middle power, security partnerships and basing, fisheries, and the existential risk that sea-level rise poses to low-lying atolls. This page follows news, politics, economy and security in Micronesia month by month, with the standing conflicts explained.
