A senior US official stated that the purpose of the American military alliance with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to fight the Islamic State group has 'largely expired.' The US and the SDF formed this coalition to combat the Islamic State, also known as Daesh, in Syria. Separately, the United States is also working to strengthen its security cooperation with Nigeria to counter the threat from Islamic State militants in West Africa.
Turkey has denied claims that the Syrian army released Daesh (ISIS) terrorists with Turkish support.
