Southern Africa

Southern Africa's inland states, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho and Eswatini, are a small, politically stable group of landlocked or semi-landlocked countries whose economies depend on mining, natural resources and access to regional trade. Their standing issues are youth unemployment, the fiscal cost of large public sectors, swings in commodity prices and climate pressure on water and food. Because their economies follow regional demand, slowdowns elsewhere spread quickly across their borders. This page holds news, politics, economy and security from this region, month by month, with the standing issues explained.
